Appearance Vs. Reality Of Macbeth Essay - 1612 Words
Steven Hua Ms. Amato ENG2D 08 December, 2016 Appearance vs. Reality In Macbeth Things are not always as they seem to be, people are often deceived to believe something different than itââ¬â¢s true meaning. Instead of knowing the reality of a situation, peopleââ¬â¢s thoughts are sometimes shifted to see only what they appear, leaving them blindsided to the real truth behind whats really going on. Appearance versus Reality is first seen when king Duncan misjudges Macbethââ¬â¢s intentions and is blindsided to his desire to become king, ultimately leading to his death. Secondly, when Banquo put trust in Macbeth, his poor judgement to see that Macbeth would to anything to secure the throne led him to his death. Finally, when Macbeth puts his trust into the weird sisterââ¬â¢s prophecy for him and put his fate into their hands, it leads him to presume he was going to keep the throne after the murder of Banquo, but that mindset and ego concluded in him getting over powered by Macduff and dying. In William Shakespeareââ¬â ¢s Macbeth, characters who fall victim to not seeing the true corrupt objectives of others, suffer fatal consequences due to their poor judgement of the image of honesty set in front of them. Duncan is the first character that suffers fatal consequences from his poor judgement. Duncan believes that Macbethââ¬â¢s intentions donââ¬â¢t have harm towards him, he doesnââ¬â¢t see Macbethââ¬â¢s desire to become king therefore blinding him from seeing the reality behind Macbethââ¬â¢s future actions and plans,Show MoreRelatedMacbeth Appearance vs Reality1046 Words à |à 5 PagesAppearance vs. Reality The role of deception and the motif of appearance and reality had a large role in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s play, Macbeth. Argument Response Against Dual Language Education Free Essays
In English First the author is a huge proponent of English only education. Le urges the voting public who is reading the article to vote against installing bilingual education into the student course curriculum. Le dedicates almost the entire piece to focus on the potential pitfalls in trying to introduce two completely different languages into a childââ¬â¢s academic curriculum simultaneously. We will write a custom essay sample on Argument Response Against Dual Language Education or any similar topic only for you Order Now Before I read this article I would have thought myself in favor of bilingual education. It would appear to be the easiest way to assimilate immigrants to our cultural as well as broadening the cultural horizons of our native English speaking students.I have no idea how arrogant a way of thinking that could possibly be. My own education, coupled with my professional and personal experience, in addition to Leââ¬â¢s essay lead me to the conclusion that English only education is by far the bets way to go. I would like to think I have a very good grasp of the English language; I am constantly being commended on my superior verbal communication skills. That being said my written communication leaves a lot to be desired. Even though I speak very eloquently (at times) I am not seem to properly translate that same level of eloquent into a printable media.I find myself a little bit embarrassed when I have to write formal documents (even this response) due to my lack of practical skill knowledge when it comes to written formats. I blame myself partially for the oversight in my education but mostly I blame my compulsory education instructors. Through out grade school, middle school and high school I was never once ordered to learn how to write a proper sentence. I was made to learn vocabulary and parts of speech surely but it was not until college I was it expected that I know how to put it all together flawlessly and with punctuation. All my writing assignments before I entered college consisted of a series of run on sentences. The sad part is I never got below C+ in any of my written assignments due to my extraordinary level of content. However, I know now that content does not a good paper solely make. My teachers did not do me any favors by allowing me to skate by, especially since I had no idea that I was skating to begin with. After I read Leââ¬â¢s article I stopped to think about the people I interact with on a daily basis, the public at large and especially my colleagues.I must admit on several occasions I find myself mortified to hear the language that comes out of their mouths. Not because of any level of vulgarity but rather the way in which they completely butcher their native language; English. I think the author makes a valid point before we become so consumed with the idea of teaching American children other languages we really should focus on them mastering English in both verbal and written formats. The Making of a Great President free essay sample
Do you think leaders in other contexts (businness, sports, religion) exhibit the same qualities as great U. S. presidents? I definitely think that leaders in other contexts have some of the same qualities as great U. S. presidents. The characteristics of a leader are made for any type of setting, whether in the public eye as a U. S. President or as a hometown leader as a school administrator. 2. How important do you think charisma is to a presidents greatness? A CEOs greatness? Can a CEO without charisma be effective? I like to think so. Many people are not very charismatic and can still be successful. Leaders need to have good communication skills in order to relate with people surrounding them. For example, a CEO will require a high level of charisma to ensure he/she is can relate to his employees. Sometimes the CEO is rarely visible at a company however, you do have some CEOs that like to make their presence known and hold one-on-one conversations with several employees while touring their own facility instead of being isolated in his/her office. We will write a custom essay sample on The Making of a Great President or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Do you think being in the right place at the right time could influence presidential greatness? CEO greatness? Alternatively, can being in the wrong place at the wrong time affect an otherwise effective leader? Yes, and at times can be the deciding factor on how people will remember you. But being in the right place at the right time can only take you so far. Once you are there you have to make the right choice. For example, the Civil War took place while Abraham Lincoln was President. Most people would agree that he would have been a great President regardless of whether the Civil War would have taken place or not but without a doubt that greatly defined his presidency and legacy. Steve Jobs helped to create Apple and steered it to become extremely successful and the world phenomenon that it is right now. Last year, due to his illness he stepped down as the CEO of Apple and appointed Tim Cook as the new CEO of Apple. Tim Cook is now reaping all the accolades that Apple is receiving due to the current success of the company that Steve Jobs left behind. Being at the wrong place at the wrong time can actually challenge a leaderââ¬â¢s potential. By creating risks dependent on the situation, the leader is forced out of his/her comfort zone and is encouraged to think outside the box. If a situation presents itself, the leader is forced to step up to the plate in search of a resolution. 4. Do you think historians can be biased in evaluating a presidents greatness? A CEOs? If so, how? I believe some historians may through no fault of their own be biased due to their belief system and values. Some of the older historians might have lived during the era where the President or CEO where in place causing them to lean towards popular opinion at the time. Furthermore, if a historian disagrees with a presidents greatness or questioning how a leader achieved his/her level of success can potentially cause extensive criticism and lack of confidence in that person as a leader.

Do Insects Hibernate in the Winter
Do Insects Hibernate in the Winter An insect doesnââ¬â¢t have the benefit of body fat, like bears and groundhogs, to survive freezing temperatures and keep internal fluids from turning to ice. Like all ectotherms, insects need a way to cope with fluctuating temperatures in their environment. But do insects hibernate? In a very general sense, hibernation refers to the state in which animals pass the winter.1 Hibernation suggests the animal is in a dormant state, with its metabolism slowed and reproduction paused. Insects dont necessarily hibernate the way warm-blooded animals do. But because the availability of host plants and food sources are limited during the winter in cold regions, insects do suspend their usual activities and enter a dormant state. So how do insects survive the cold winter months? Different insects use different strategies to avoid freezing to death when the temperature falls. Some insects employ a combination of strategies to survive the winter. Migration When it gets cold, leave! Some insects head to warmer climes, or at least better conditions, when winter weather approaches. The most famous migrating insect is the monarch butterfly. Monarchs in the eastern U.S. and Canada fly up to 2,000 miles to spend their winter in Mexico. Many other butterflies and moths also migrate seasonally, including the gulf fritillary, the painted lady, the black cutworm, and fall armyworm. Common green darners, dragonflies that inhabit ponds and lakes as far north as Canada, migrate as well. Communal Living When it gets cold, huddle up! Thereââ¬â¢s warmth in numbers for some insects. Honey bees cluster together as the temperatures drop, and use their collective body heat to keep themselves and the brood warm. Ants and termites head below the frost line, where their large numbers and stored food keep them comfortable until spring arrives. Several insects are known for their cool weather aggregations. Convergent lady beetles, for example, gather en masse on rocks or branches during spells of cold weather. Indoor Living When it gets cold, move inside! Much to the displeasure of homeowners, some insects seek shelter in the warmth of human dwellings when winter approaches. Each fall, peoples houses are invaded by box elder bugs, Asian multicolored lady beetles, brown marmorated stink bugs, and others. While these insects rarely cause damage indoors ââ¬â theyre just looking for a cozy place to wait out the winter ââ¬â they may release foul-smelling substances when threatened by a homeowner trying to evict them. Torpor When it gets cold, stay still! Certain insects, particularly ones that live in higher altitudes or near the Earthââ¬â¢s poles, use a state of torpor to survive drops in temperature. Torpor is a temporary state of suspension or sleep, during which the insect is completely immobile. The New Zealand weta, for example, is a flightless cricket that lives in high altitudes. When temperatures drop in the evening, the cricket freezes solid. As daylight warms the weta, it comes out of the torpid state and resumes activity. Diapause When it gets cold, rest! Unlike torpor, diapause is a long-term state of suspension. Diapause synchronizes the insectââ¬â¢s life cycle with seasonal changes in its environment, including winter conditions. Put simply, if itââ¬â¢s too cold to fly and thereââ¬â¢s nothing to eat, you might as well take a break (or pause). Insect diapause may occur in any stage of development: Eggs ââ¬â Praying mantids survive the winter as eggs, which emerge in spring.Larvae ââ¬â Woolly bear caterpillars curl up in thick layers of leaf litter for winter. In spring, they spin their cocoons.Pupa ââ¬â Black swallowtails spend winter as chrysalids, emerging as butterflies when warm weather returns.Adults ââ¬â Mourning cloak butterflies hibernate as adults for the winter, tucking themselves behind loose bark or in tree cavities. Antifreeze When it gets cold, lower your freezing point! Many insects prepare for the cold by making their own antifreeze. During the fall, insects produce glycerol, which increases in the hemolymph. Glycerol gives the insect body ââ¬Å"supercoolingâ⬠ability, allowing body fluids to drop below freezing points without causing ice damage. Glycerol also lowers the freezing point, making insects more cold-tolerant, and protects tissues and cells from damage during icy conditions in the environment. In spring, glycerol levels drop again. Phonetics and Phonology Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Phonetics and Phonology - Essay Example This paper examines the nature and purpose of the traditional system of phonetic notation and analysis which is based upon units of analysis called ââ¬Å"segmentsâ⬠. It outlines the usefulness of this concept, and also its limitations, especially in the light of modern technologies which provide a wealth of very detailed scientific data on how sounds are produced by the human organs of speech. The concept of ââ¬Å"coarticulationâ⬠is presented against the background of these traditional and more modern methodologies for analysing human speech, and finally Laverââ¬â¢s (1994) view of coarticulation is evaluated in depth using examples from English and a few other languages. When a person speaks in any human language the sound emerges in a stream without any clear breaks between words. This is of course very difficult to analyse in one fluid stream and so scholars over the years have had to devise a method of breaking human speech into component parts. A fundamental distinction between vowels and consonants is one of the most obvious that can be made and forms the basis of standard phonetic notation. Vowels are sounds which emerge in a stream of air coming through the mouth and consonants are sounds which occur when this air is interrupted, or stopped by one or more of the speech organs such as the vocal cord, tongue, lips and teeth. A vowel and consonant occurring together are termed a syllable. These distinctions are represented in the worldââ¬â¢s alphabets by various systems of written symbols, so that most people are familiar with these simple concepts. In phonetics there are more precise terms to describe the nature of the stops, and there are s everal notational systems such as the International Phonetic Alphabet which capture individual phonemes. These international conventions are very useful for distinguishing between the sounds of different languages, or of different speakers using the same language. All of these descriptors of small parts
